#Elimination

Elimination is the most effective strategy in the Hierarchy of Controls for managing hazards in the workplace.

Elimination involves completely removing the hazard from the workplace. This means that the hazardous material, equipment, or process is no longer present, and thus the risk it poses is entirely eradicated.

Steps

  • Identify Hazards
  • Assess Feasibility
  • Redesign Processes
  • Replace Hazardous Elements

How to implement elimination

Determine which materials, processes, or activities pose a risk.
Evaluate whether it is possible to remove the hazard entirely without compromising the work process.
Alter work processes to eliminate the hazard, for example, automating a manual task that poses a risk.
Remove hazardous materials or equipment and replace them with non-hazardous alternatives.

Benefits of #Elimination

Highest Level of Protection Since the hazard is completely removed, there is no risk to workers.

Long-term Solution
Once the hazard is eliminated, the need for ongoing control measures is reduced or eliminated.

Improved Compliance
Easier to comply with safety regulations since the hazard no longer exists.
